The Show’s Jurors will be – Michelle Clarke, Nan Daly and

Margaret McWethy.

Michelle Clarke, Hanover artist and Best in Show winner at the Scituate Arts Association's 2019 Juried Show, reports that, “I am a self-taught artist, I have a studio at The ET Wright Building shared by many talented artists. Sharing their knowledge with each other is the best classroom you can attend.” Of her winning piece she states, “As a local South Shore artist, my goal is to create a piece of art that cannot be passed by without a connection, even if only for a moment.  I would like to draw your attention, whether it be to my technique, vibrant colors, texture or design. I start a piece by choice of colors, shapes, textures, mediums, then find something, whether it be a landscape, figure, symbol, a story, a meaning , then I begin. My intent can change by the moment, like a free spirit, lots of fun.  I hope you enjoy my work: Sonata.

Nan Daly grew up climbing trees in a city bordering the Hudson and the Catskills of NY.  These memories provide much of the imagery of her abstract paintings.  She also enjoys painting the fragile beauty of flowers, especially since it provides an antidote to New England winters.  Nan has an MA in English and taught high school English and Drama before becoming a serious painter.  She has exhibited at the Duxbury Art Complex Museum, the Zullo Gallery, Front Street Art Gallery, the Natick Center for the Arts, the Attleboro Art Museum, and the WBGH Juried Fine Art Auction. She is a member of the Needham Art Association, the Dedham Art Association, the Needham Open Studios and the Wellesley Society of Artists and is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society.

Margaret McWethy is an Impressionist painter with a lifelong interest in art and the natural world.  She paints the scenes that surround her, but her real subjects are the brilliance of light and the rhythms of nature. Margaret studied art history and biology at Swarthmore College. Since graduating she has sought teachers who base their art on training, careful observation, and understanding. Master colorist, Henry Hensche and nationally known portrait artist Cedric Egeli, have been influential teachers who have helped Margaret learn the skills and discipline needed to express her personal view of nature.  The pursuit of knowledge to enhance her “seeing” of the world has become an ongoing journey for Margaret. Margaret’s background in the sciences tends to make her approach a blend of the analytical and intuitive. “I like the idea of reducing things to parts to see how they work, then reconstructing and editing. Not with the object of reducing things to formulas but to reach some real understanding with which one can then begin to create. I always like exploring the small landscape of the still life. I enjoy the intimacy of the relationships.” She teaches Painting the Impressionist Still Life locally. She is is a charter member of the New England Plein Air Painters. Her work hangs in private collections in the United States and Europe.
