The Front Street Art Gallery is the venue for the annual Scituate Arts Association (SAA) Juried Show to be held from Wednesday, April 12th through Sunday, April 30th. Awards and a Reception will take place Friday evening, April 21st from 6:30 to 9 PM. One $500 prize for Best In Show will be given with up to $1000 in prizes to be awarded.
The Show’s Jurors:
Stephen Boczanowski summered in the Scituate-Marshfield area which influenced his paintings of local scenes: “As I revisited these places, I realized how much our local environment is enriched with quaint harbors…that echo an era long gone by. The boats had character, and the play of sunlight and shadow on their unpainted forms paid tribute to the rugged vessels.” A graduate of Tufts University, Boston Museum School, and a MS (Art Ed) from Mass College of Art, he teaches photography at Providence College.
Eileen Casey, 2016 Best in Show Winner with “New England Peak,” is a Sandwich artist whose work has long focused on nature as a source of artistic inspiration and it continues to spark her imagination now in her interpretations of nests, trees, landscapes, koi and water. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, the Pastel Society of America and the Connecticut Pastel Society. She is a Cape Cod Art Association Master Artist.
Stephen Holland, a native of Bryn Mawr, PA, began drawing and painting at the age of seven. He states he "right brained it" his entire life. A graduate of Winthrop High, he is a recipient of the United Nations Art Award, and student of the New England School of Art. Summers were spent at Prout's Neck painting the Maine Coast and Cape Cod doing pastel street portraits forcing him to observe and draw quickly and accurately. He has at least three projects going at one time-to keep his work fresh. His media include acrylic, gouache and watercolor; subjects include landscapes, seascapes, still life and portraits done in representational style yet they retain a loose and painterly effect. Stephen is a member of the Copley Society & the New England Watercolor Society plus many local associations, including the SAA.
Come to Scituate Harbor and experience the wealth of art produced by the South Shore artistic community and beyond. It is indeed a gift to have so many talented people in our midst.
